Step 5: Promoting Your Website

Just because your site is online, doesn’t mean that people are going to be able to find your website. In fact, I think that most website owners fail when it comes to website promotion. Don’t let your website get lost in the online world because you didn’t take the time to properly promote it.

The key to promotion is to not be shy about telling other people about your website, especially if those people are your target demographic!

Some website owners don’t spend time on website promotion because they don’t think they have a site that looks good enough to be promoted. Their excuses are that they need to work on the design or add more content before promoting the site.

Don’t get caught in the trap of delaying your website promotion! If you took the time to setup a nice website, then you need to start telling people about it. You should be proud of your hard work and the effort that was required to get your website online!

So, what are the steps that need to be used to promote your website? Most of the effective forms of promotion can be used for free. These are some things that you should consider:

1. Social media websites

It is very likely that you already have a Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest account. When you post a new update on your website, make sure that you share the link on these social accounts as well.

Social media makes it easy to connect with others who are interested in the same topic as you. You can spend time by requesting a friend connection with some of the most popular bloggers in your industry, which could potentially lead to them sharing your content at some point.

It is surprising to see how fast your content can go viral if the right people think that your website page is interesting, because they will want to share it with their friends through social media.

2. Blog comments

Most blogs allow you to leave a comment so that you can join in the conversation, and you can create a link back to your website in the comment. Make sure that your comments are useful and add value to the conversation, and you will put your website link in front of many people who might be interested.

Be careful though… don’t abuse blog commenting!

If your comments are poor quality or terribly written, then you are just wasting your time because the website owner will likely delete the comment.

Instead, make sure that the comments are useful and interesting, and other people might visit your website because they want to read more about the things that you have to say.

3. Guest blogging

You can boost the readers on your website by publishing guest blog posts on other websites. Find popular websites in your niche, and send a message to the site owner to offer a free post for their website.

Not all bloggers or website owners want guest bloggers, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Guest blogging is usually a win-win for everyone involved, because the site owner will get content for their website and you will get a link back to your website. Just make sure that you provide high quality content to be posted, which increases the likelihood that people will click through the link to visit your page.

4. Internet forums

Look for popular online forums in your niche, and join in on the conversation. For example, if you have a website about trendy clothing, then look for forums where people are talking about style and fashion.

Most of the time, these forums will let you put a link in the signature of your website, which will show up on the bottom of each post that you publish. Sometimes, you might need to join in the conversation for a certain number of posts before you will be allowed to add a link.

Make sure that your posts are helpful and not spammy. If the content is high quality and interesting to the reader, then they might be motivated to click through the link and read more about the information that you have to share.

What’s the next step?

At this point, you’ve been taught the steps that need to be followed to get your website online and start promoting it. For some people, you might have already reached your end goal at this point. These steps allow you to connect with other like-minded people and share your ideas and thoughts.

But, you might consider monetization if you have a steady stream of visitors coming to your website. The last step in this tutorial will teach you about the methods that can be used to make money with your website.
